With all the special votes now counted, the final results for the Workers Party’s 4 mayoral candidates are as follows:
Waitakere City: Rebecca Broad 2,101 votes (4.46%) fantastic result!
Wellington: Nick Kelly 988 votes (1.43%)
Christchurch: Byron Clark 720 votes (0.69%)
Dunedin: Tim Bowron 896 votes (2.23%)*
(* joint candidate of WP and ISO)
All in all a pretty good result for a party that stands on an openly anti-capitalist platform and whose candidates openly identify as revolutionary socialists.
More importantly though the Workers Party as a result of the extra profile it gained during the local body election campaign is now closing in on its goal of signing up 500 members so that it can contest the party list in the 2008 general election.

Some very creditable results there, excellent work comrades. Now you’ve put down a marker, hopefully there will be opportunities for advance in future.
