Gordon Copeland leaves his party (again!)

By Tim B

I know it’s probably not nice to make fun of the Christians, but the ongoing saga surrounding Independent MP Gordon Copeland and his various unsuccessful attempts to form a “Bible-based, pro-family” political party really is just impossible to resist!

Having orginally split from United Future last year over his party’s support for the so-called “anti-smacking bill”, he next attempted to hook up with Destiny New Zealand, the political wing of televangelist Brian Tamaki’s church to form a new outfit called the Family Party. Then after Tamaki called a press conference and announced that Copeland was only going to be co-leader (not leader) of the Destiny NZ party Copeland walked out again in a fit of pique.

Now Radio NZ is reporting that Copeland has abandoned his new political vehicle, Future New Zealand, which apparently is also in the process of renaming itself as the “Kiwi Party”.

All of which goes to show I guess that it’s not just the revolutionary left which is prone to the Monty Python “Peoples Front of Judea” syndrome – the Christian right is even worse!
